Early Life
Mac was born Matthew McClung on the 6th of January 1999, in Gate City, Virginia. He is the son of Marcus and Lenoir and has an older sister Anna. Mac’s father is a former football player at Virginia Tech and later became a Country Prosecutor.
After the birth of Mac, his mother Lenoir started working as a driving instructor while his sister is a soccer player. Mac came from an athlete family so he was always interested in sports and was extraordinarily competitive while growing up.
At first, he began playing football in the 5th grade but soon developed an interest in basketball. While studying in the 7th grade his mom took him to the gym to pursue his career in basketball. From that point on he began focusing on his basketball training and quit his dreams of becoming a football player.
High School
Mac attended Gate City High School where his height was about 5 feet 10 inches. In school, he got a chance to dunk for the very first time and since then he became an internet phenomenon.
As a junior, he wound up scoring a career-high 64 points during a defeat to Dan River High School at the Virginia High School League Region 2A West tournament which was held in February 2017. It became the high school history’s top-scoring performance.
In December 2017, Mac made his senior debut when he scored 47 points in a win over Lee High School. In early 2018 Mac played for Georgetown against Fern Creek High School of Louisville in Bristol, where he scored 44 points. At the end of 2018, Mac scored a season-high 38 points for Georgetown winning over Little Rock. He was averaging 13 points as a freshman and led Big East Conference freshmen in scoring. In 2020 he had a foot injury which led him to skip several games during his sophomore season.
As a result, he averaged 15 points, playing only 21 games as a sophomore. Following that season he eventually signed with an NCAA-certified as well as being declared for the 2020 NBA draft. But it didn’t last long and was pulled out from the 2020 NBA Draft.
In May 2020, Mac transferred to “Texas Tech Red Raiders” after leaving Georgetown. In November of that year, he made his Texas Tech debut, scoring 20 points win over Northwestern State. He was averaging over 15 points per game as a junior.
Breakthrough
Mac began playing for the 2021 NBA Summer League, in the Los Angeles Lakers after being undrafted in the 2021 NBA draft. In October of that year, he made a deal with the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G League.
He tried to enter the NBA Draft in 2021 once again after playing a full season as a “Red Raiders.” But Mac was not able to be a part of the NBA because of his uneven College Seasons.

Personal Life
From that very first moment of his life, Matt has been battling to prove himself. After his birth, the doctors saw that the umbilical cord was covered around Mac’s neck and cutting off the oxygen to his brain. His father could only watch helplessly as his son came into this world, still, lifeless, and blue. Luckily, the treatment was successful.
When Mac was young his parents built a gym in the basement of their house so Mac’s sister Anna can practice her soccer abilities when it was too cold to go outside. Mac’s own competitive spirit was so fierce that when he began playing football in grade 5, his father had to ban him from the gym so that his sister could train in peace.
