Ever wondered what some of your favorite British celebrities like to get up to in their spare time? Great Britain is known for many different cultural impacts throughout the years, and there are some genuinely iconic British celebs out there.
Rarely does a Grammys or Academy Awards ceremony go by without some Brits taking home awards. This relatively small country knows how to create some of the most famous musicians, actors, and other celebs out there, but what other hobbies do they have?
There are a lot of stars from the UK who are known to love different types of gaming. In this guide, we’re going through some of the favorite games of the Brits we know and love, from casino to console games.
Sean Connery – Roulette
It fits the character that he is most associated with. Connery was known to go to casinos and play roulette in person, unlike many people who in our days prefer the virtual version of everything. Playing roulette online, on the other hand, may have the same fun since the development of technologies and even the rise of virtual reality options. Although who knows, maybe celebrities as well prefer online gambling, to keep themselves far from the paparazzi.
Connery has it that his favorite bet was on the number 17, and he even supposedly won three spins in a row betting on the number, taking home some significant winnings. There has been some speculation that this was a publicity stunt for a James Bond film, but it is a great story either way.
As a character, James Bond is known for playing a variety of casino games including poker in the 2006 hit Casino Royale, and Connery virtually stayed in character for some real-life roulette games.
Actor and musician Harry Styles also has the words “17 Black” tattooed on him which could be a reference to this bet, but we don’t know for sure.
Stormzy – Watch Dogs
A significant shift from the casino game of roulette, but Stormzy seems to be much more into playing console games including Watch Dogs. The British rapper (who is estimated to have a net worth of $25 million) features in the game!
He appears in Watch Dogs: Legion and a whole mission in this popular video game is dedicated to him.
The mission involves taking control of a counter-terrorism drone to combat a group that is said to have been monitoring his movements. A Stormzy song plays or “uploads” in the gameplay and the player has to defend it for the duration of the song uploading.
We don’t know for sure that this is Stormzy’s favorite game but it is fair to say that he enjoyed being involved and his collaboration with Ubisoft.
Warwick Davis – The Chaos Engine
Warwick Davis has been in a truly impressive array of films and appeared in some of the biggest franchises ever. Not many actors can claim to have been in so many successful films as his credits include Star Wars and Harry Potter films as well as cult classic Willow.
Davis says he has been a gamer ever since he first bought a ZX Spectrum, and still plays games today. In an interview, he explained what his favorite game ever is, and it came as some surprise due to the fact it is not the most famous of games.
The Chaos Engine was the game he chose, a quirky game from the 1990s in the “run and gun” genre. The players battle hostile creations of the “Chaos Engine” and defeat the inventor at the center of it all.
First played on Omega, the game was also released on SNES, Atari ST, and Mega Drive.
Victoria Coren-Mitchell – Poker
While she is not the most famous of the celebs on this list globally, Victoria Coren-Mitchell is well-known in Britain. As well as being a television personality she has appeared on several comedy shows, and comes from a very famous family. Her brother Giles is a writer and presenter and her father was a comic writer and journalist.
For Victoria, poker was far more than just a hobby, and incredibly she has made over $2 million in a glittering poker career. She was even the first woman to win an event on the European Poker Tour (EPT).
In her career, she has also gone on to present several different poker-related television shows, though some of her UK fans love her for her presentation and don’t even realize the second career she has had.
Henry Cavill – Warhammer
Hunky actor Henry Cavill makes absolutely no secret of his love of the game Warhammer. Specifically, he plays the future-based Warhammer 40,000.
Cavill also says it took him a while to confess to his love of the game which is seen as quite geeky by some, but he has embraced it now. He is attached to star in a new Warhammer show that is being commissioned by Amazon.
The British actor and Man of Steel star says he has been involved with the game since he was just 10 years old.
Some of the hobbies of these British actors, musicians, and other celebs may well surprise you. From fantasy table games to high-tech computer games, the stars we see on our screens and hear through our headphones certainly have some intriguing (and sometimes obscure) hobbies.
