Early Life
Queen Naija was born on October 17th, 1995, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, a city neighboring Detriot. She was named Queen after her grandmother and her mid-name Naija came from her father. She has Yemeni ancestry from her father’s side and her mother is Black Italian and Indian.
Naija’s dad came to visit her at the hospital when she was born but was otherwise not a part of her life as he was deported back to Yamen when she was 2 years old. As a result, Queen was raised by a single mother. Apart from this, she started singing at the age of 3, as her grandma began taking her to church.
When Queen was 6 years old her mother got married and had two more kids, her younger brother Terrell and a sister Tina. As the older sibling, she felt a responsibility to help her mother out in any she could.
Career
Queen Naija decided to try out for “American Idol” at the age of 16 years old. However, she was not selected for the show, so Queen returned home and landed a job at Checkers Drive-In restaurant. She did eventually return to try out for “American Idol” by the age of 18.
Queen auditioned with the song which was sung by former American Idol, Jennifer Hudson in the 2006 movie “Dream Girls.” She didn’t win the season but her appearance earned her a lot of popularity in the music industry.

In December 2017 Queen came to the spotlight when she released her song “Medicine.” The official music video for the song was uploaded on YouTube in March 2018 and it became a sensation. That track racked up over 215 million views on YouTube.

She eventually made a deal with Capitol Records and dropped her second track “Karma” in June 2018.
